EMDR Therapy
I work with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)—which is basically a fancy way to help your brain hit the “reset” button on memories or feelings that get stuck and keep causing you distress.
Here’s how it works: when something traumatic or stressful happens, your brain sometimes gets stuck processing it, like a computer freezing on one page. EMDR helps your brain process those stuck memories by gently “tapping” into how your brain naturally processes information—using side-to-side eye movements, sounds, or taps. This helps your brain rewire those old, painful connections and make them less overwhelming.
Think of it like untangling a knot in your favorite necklace. It can be tricky, but with a little patience and the right tools—like sounds or gentle movements—you can loosen the knot and wear it comfortably again.
In virtual sessions, instead of me waving my fingers around for your eyes to follow (because, honestly, that looks funny on Telehealth), we use sounds in your headphones or a gentle movement link you can watch on your screen. These bilateral (side-to-side) stimuli mimic that natural processing rhythm and help your brain “unstick” those stuck points.
I’m EMDRIA-trained through Compassion Works and don’t always take out my magic wand — I use EMDR selectively, like a secret weapon we bring out when we hit those tricky spots that keep looping in your mind.
If we come across a stuck point in your story, I’ll invite you to try it out. No weird eye gymnastics required—just a little guided sounds or movement to help your brain let go and heal.
